Sweet as Red Velvet.
Story by: Starlight Williams
Two lawyers walk into a room, which could be the start of a joke, but for Dewanna and Harry, it’s where their story began.
Harry was working on a case with one of Dewanna’s friends when she first met him. “I was a bit embarrassed because I had to force myself to not stare at him,” Dewanna says.
Instead of his number, Harry provided Dewanna some helpful advice to kick start her career as an attorney. Communicating through email for a couple of weeks while Dewanna studied for her Georgia Bar exam, their conversation became less about law and more about developing love.
Emails soon led to an exchange of numbers, which led to a promise of getting drinks after Dewanna passed her exam. Needless to say, Dewanna never got a chance to use her Georgia license after finding her one true match in Louisiana.
Nearly a year into the relationship, while munching on some potato chips, Dewanna didn’t expect for Harry to take their relationship to the next level.
“He kept fiddling with his phone, and I didn’t know what he was doing,” Dewanna said. He was trying to make sure that proposal was caught on video before they went out for the night. “As we were walking out the door, I was in front of him, and I heard him say ‘I have this for you.’”
I turned around, and it was a ring! I couldn’t believe it. It was like a dream come true.”
With an elegant wedding that captured the charm of New Orleans, Dewanna and Harry began their happily ever after

"I wanted a very elegant theme, but I also wanted to personalize it with some of our engagement photos. So we used crystal candelabras for the centerpieces along with framed photos."
To incorporate their love of traveling, Dewanna and Harry had their guests sign a globe instead of a traditional guest book.
Harry only eats red velvet cake, so Dewanna made sure their 7-tier wedding cake had red velvet and chocolate layers in addition to the the traditional wedding cake flavor.
Harry loves doing cross fit. So, his groom's cake was cross fit themed with rogue weights, kettle bell, and jump rope. And yes, this cake was entirely red velvet!
