Susie Anderson & Ty Angeron: December 18, 2009
By New Orleans Weddings Magazine
Photography By Bob Bradford Photography
From the moment they met more than sixteen years ago there was a connection, a bond, a definite relationship that could not be denied. Tested over time and tried through countless trials, Susie and Ty’s friendship has endured like none other.
Not long after Hurricane Katrina, Susie was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the course of three years, her wellness became the focus of the couple’s lives. During this time, Susie would endure the incredible trials of radiation, surgery and seven rounds of chemo-therapy. With plans for a trip to Las Vegas in December 2008, Ty saw his opportunity for a memorable proposal. Unbeknownst to Susie, the day before they departed, Ty visited her father to ask for Susie’s hand in marriage.
While dining at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, staff and photographers came around and took photos of the happy couple. After the photographer asked which photos they would like to purchase, Ty suggested that they take all the photos home with them “Because I want you to remember what we looked like on the night that I asked you to spend the rest of your life with me.” Susie was surprised and overcome with emotion, and thankfully, she said yes.
Since the wedding took place in December 2009, Ty and Susie decided on an elegant holiday theme complete with sparklers and Christmas lights on the balcony of the Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel in New Orleans. The couple picked the Astor Crowne because of the excitement surrounding the French Quarter and easy access to nearby attractions. Susie said, “The hotel operation were so smooth, the staff were excellent and there was no down-time between the ceremony and reception.”
Susie chose a striking all-white wedding cake made with butter cream frosting. However, her groom’s cake, which was inspired by the groom’s love for Louisiana State University and golf, received even more outstanding recognition. Susie said her guests commented that “These were the best cakes they have every eaten.”
Susie danced away at her reception in an ivory A-line gown, with intricate detail all along the corset of the dress.
Ty and his groomsmen wore solid black tuxedos by John’s Tuxedos. The men wore red ties and black vests, while Ty wore an ivory tie and vest to accent Susie’s gown- all accessorized by purple and gold wristbands with Susie’s name embossed – a sign of support for her battle against cancer.
Susie knew Bob Bradford would be her photographer ever since working with him for her sister’s wedding 15 years ago. “He is so easy to work with, he’s flexible and makes you feel so comfortable,” Susie said, “I didn’t even consider another photographer.”
Susie and Ty wanted to personalize their wedding so that it would always be something unique to the couple. The minister for the ceremony was someone that bride babysat while she attended college. This allowed for the couple to customize their wedding and highlight both Susie and Ty’s faiths. The bride’s high school theology teacher and choir director also sang during the lighting of the unity candle.
The couple let the good times roll and danced the rest of the night away with their 300 guests at their reception to their favorite New Orleans music.
