Heidi and Shawn met 5 years ago while both were in school at Andrew Jackson High School in Chalmette. The two were in English class together and started dating May of 2004 when Heidi was a Junior and Shawn was a Senior. Shawn went off to Southwest Mississippi community college in Summit, MS while Heidi finished her senior year at AJ. Then that August when Hurricane Katrina hit and destroyed their homes, they moved to Mandeville with their parents and started going to school at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Shawn proposed to Heidi in May of 2007 and the couple began the long process of planning their wedding. First thing they chose was their date. They both wanted a Fall wedding for the cool weather and Heidi loves fall colors. They chose November 8, 2008.
Then the couple turned their focus to finding a venue. “We looked all over until we found the perfect place and that place was The Presidential Palace.” comments Heidi. “When we walked in we just knew it would be perfect.” The Presidential Palace matched their color theme of burgundy and rustic orange perfectly. Heidi adds, “I also loved the way it was set up. It was big and spacious.” Heidi and Shawn then decided on a photographer. They chose Marengo Photography after seeing their work at the Presidential Palace. “My photographers did a great job of capturing my night amazingly...they showed how much fun we all had and how everyone had a great time.” says Heidi. Heidi’s dress was the first dress she picked out. As soon as she tried it on, she fell in love with it. Heidi’s gown was a beautiful strapless, diamond white dress with bead work detail on the bodice and a chapel length train. Her bridesmaids wore burgundy v-neck dresses with ruching at the waist. Heidi carried a bouquet of burgundy calla lilies and white stephanotis. Her bridesmaids carried bouquets of burgundy calla lilies and orange daisies with coffee bean accents.
Heidi and Shawn’s ceremony took place in the Presidential Palace’s ballroom in front of the beautifully painted Roman Gothic-style mural and Corinthian columns.
After the ceremony, Heidi and Shawn were treated to a private dinner for two in the Bridal Suite. Heidi remarks, “I love how Mr. Phil Daigrepont at the Presidential Palace took care of everything. They did a great job of having everything flow smoothly.”
After taking portraits in front of the lavish fireplace setting, Heidi and Shawn enjoyed dancing with their friends and family.
The wedding cake was a four tier cake with burgundy fleur de lis decorations and the couple’s monogram as a cake topper.
Heidi and Shawn stayed in New Orleans for their wedding night and have planned a honeymoon in Germany for their first wedding anniversary.
